Why Did You Become a Dentist?
The best thing about Dr. Ross’s job is meeting a variety of people and helping them become healthier and have great smiles. Ever since he was young, he always respected his family dentist and was especially influenced by his orthodontist during his high school years. This made him initially want to be an orthodontist! However, by opting for general dentistry instead, he has found that he’s able to meet with a wider variety of patients and that the field allows him to provide many more procedures. Of course, that hasn’t stopped him from expanding his education along the way!
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Ross graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1991 to earn his DMD degree and completed a two-year general practice residency at North Carolina Baptist Hospital on the campus of Wake Forest University. There, he served as chief resident during his second year. He currently holds 33 years of experience in the dental field, 27 of which he has earned at Coombs, Ross & Sourlis Family Dentistry of Rock Hill!

The Catawba Dental Study Club, a local organization dedicated to the advancement of dental care
Dr. Ross is also a graduate of the acclaimed Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies and received the prestigious Fellowship award from the Academy of General Dentistry in 1995. He is currently completing the requirements for the Mastership designation. Dr. Ross has also served as president of the Tri-County Dental Society and on the board of directors for Winthrop University's Eagle Club.
What Do You Enjoy Outside of the Practice?
Today, Dr. Ross lives in Rock Hill and has happily adopted it as his hometown. He currently lives with his wife Myra and two children. Together, they take care of two dogs, a cat, and a fish. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, scuba diving, traveling, target shooting, and spending time with his family. He particularly enjoys watching his daughter play soccer and his son play football.
One fun fact about Dr. Ross is that he is quite the adventurer! Not only does he have his pilot license, but he’s a PADI scuba divemaster and can even count cards while playing blackjack!
